This delightful easy growing peony from Georgia is better known as Paeonia ruprechtiana or Paeonia caucasica .Typical for this species is the strange red foliage  which contrasts very well with the pink-red flowers. The red leaf colour wanes away when season progresses . It grows well on neutral to alkaline soils with plenty of organics. As woodland plant it is most suited for half shade to shade and it tollerates more moist than Mediteranian species.
